Box Office Hopes to Fly With ‘Iron Man’
Box office this weekend seems like a three-day-weekend school with at least one tracking service predicting “Iron Man” will fly well above $70 million through Sunday. Reviews have been astronomical with Robert Downey Jr. starring. There were even 8 p.m. and midnight showings in more than 2,500 locations Thursday. The only other wide opener this weekend is romantic comedy “Made of Honor.”
According to Hollywood Reporter, Internet movie ticketer Fandango said 81% of its recent sales were for the Marvel-produced “Iron Man.” With film awareness already huge, filmmakers forecasted positive word-of-mouth from its Thursday screenings will stoke must-see sentiment throughout the weekend.
